Our company has three main areas of focus and expertise. The first of these is our landscaping crew. This facet of our business is our foundation, the longest practicing group in our company. From retaining walls to lawn installation we beautify your property.

To complement the landscaping aspect, we added a concrete group. This part of our company can provide a variety of flatwork services from gray sidewalks to stamped and colored patios and pool decks, as well as small and large building slabs.

Excavation makes up the third focus group of our company. This area is now our largest which is continuously growing to meet the needs of our customers. We are equipped to handle both commercial and residential site prep from the initial ground breaking to the finishing touches, as well as installation and repair of underground utilities.

Our dedicated and driven employees provide excellent service, to produce a completed project that everyone can take pride in. With this commitment from our employees and management, we will be able to serve your needs for years to come. Let our experienced team help you with your next project, you will be glad you did.

Our company was initially formed in April of 1998, with 3 owners, Steve Mueller, Jason Viebrock, and Dan Thiel.  We began doing landscaping projects with a small Ford L7000 single-axle dump truck, a Bobcat 853, a tandem-axle trailer, and a lot of desire to succeed.  Even at this startup time we always focused on doing quality work for our customers, and keeping our equipment clean and well maintained.  We always reserved Sunday evenings as "wash day" for our equipment.  Our small company began to grow immediately, and soon, Steve and Dan bought out Jason's interest in the company and positioned it to be focused in the small to mid-size project market.

As we developed great customer relations, we realized that we could offer more services that they needed, and so started doing flatwork concrete projects as well, which complemented the landscaping services that we offered.  Soon, the concrete side of our business was growing as fast as the landscaping side was.  We took a leap of faith and bought a significant amount of topsoil from some construction sites, and to this day, still sell screened/pulverized topsoil to our customers.

Then came the big downturn in the economy in 2007-08.  But our business continued to grow, even in these lean years.  We had to take on some new lines of work for the company and ended up traveling a bit further than we desired, but we made it through.  However, the economy took its toll on other businesses in the area, and some had to close down.  In the next few years, we started to move into the excavation business and bought some larger-scale equipment like wheel loaders, dozers, and backhoes.  This line of work continues to grow for us, as does the size of the equipment needed to support it.

In August of 2012 we purchased the property at 651 State Highway 35, and moved our base of operations to that location.  It was a big move for us that gave us a great deal of exposure, and a place to park all of the various trucks, trailers, and equipment that we continue to accumulate as our business grows.

To date, the biggest project that we have taken on is the sitework, concrete, and landscaping for the renovation of the Osceola High School athletic complex.  We take great pride in being able to work for our hometown folks, and produce a result that helps our community set itself apart from surrounding ones.  Every time we drive by the complex on Highway 35, we can smile and know that we had a big part in making it the wonderful facility that it is.

J & S General Contracting continues to evolve both in our business lines and our management.  Two of our long term employees, Bob Meyer and Matt Adam, are in the process of taking over management of the company, as Dan and Steve look to hand over the reins of the business over the next several years.  Bob currently leads the concrete business unit of the company, and Matt leads the excavation business unit.  Both are hard working family men, and have a strong desire to see the company continue to grow and succeed.

Today we offer landscaping, concrete work, excavation, landscaping materials, hauling, and snow removal services to the wonderful people of western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.  Our commitment to our community and surrounding areas continues as strong as ever, and we support many philanthropic organizations in our area.

We are thankful for the opportunities that we have received and have worked very hard to be good citizens and earn the respect of everyone in our community.
